Description

Founded in 1971 in New York City by Joe Fields and Don Schlitten, Onyx Records flourished by re-issuing recordings of artists such as Art Tatum and Charlie Parker. The name was taken from a famous Manhattan jazz club whose heyday corresponded with that of the bebop era. Notable artists: Charlie Parker, Louis Armstrong, Coleman Hawkins, Art Tatum, Johnny Hodges, Art Pepper, and more.
