Cadet Records began as Argo Records in 1955 as the jazz subsidiary of Chess Records. Argo changed its name to Cadet in 1965 to avoid confusion with a similarly named label in the UK. Cadet continued to release records until around 1974, at which times its artists were transitioned to Chess Records. Cadet Records left an indelible mark on the jazz scene, contributing to the vibrant landscape of jazz, blues, and rock during its active years. Notable artist: Sonny Stitt, Gene Ammons, James Moody, Amhad Jamal and more.
