Description

Candid Records was formed by Archie Bleyer as a subsidiary of Cadence Records in 1960. Headed up by civil rights activist Nat Hentoff, Candid recorded some of the most influential jazz artists of the day, including the great Charles Mingus. But by the end of 1961, Cadence (and Candid) were out of business. The whole catalog was bought by Andy Williams shortly thereafter, and the record label was revived in 1985 by veteran British jazz producer Alan Bates. Notable Artists: Charles Mingus, Cecil Taylor, Booker Ervin, Booker Little, Eric Dolphy, and more.
