Description

Delmark Records began as Delmar Records in 1953. It was founded by Robert Koester, who owned a record shop on Delmar Blvd. in St. Louis, Missouri. In 1958, Koester moved to Chicago and opened a new record store, Jazz Record Mart. Delmark Records found its home in the basement of that record shop. Throughout its long history, Delmark Records has recorded numerous important jazz and blues artists, and its catalog reflects Koester’s passion for authentic American music. Notable artists: Sonny Stitt, Jimmy Forrest, Junior Wells, Sleepy John Estes, Buddy Guy, Otis Rush and more.
