Emarcy Records was formed in 1954 by Irving Green and Bob Shad as a subsidiary of Mercury Records. The label’s name is the phonetic spelling of MRC (Mercury Record Company). With releases by jazz luminaries like Clifford Brown, Max Roach, and Cannonball Adderly, Emarcy quickly became a competitor of Verve Records, the leading jazz label of the day. Notable artists: Clifford Brown, Max Roach, Sarah Vaughn, Cannonball Adderly, and more.
