Description
Milestone Records was formed in 1966 by Orrin Keepnews and Dick Katz in NYC. After Riverside Records declared bankruptcy in 1964 (which Keepnews had earlier formed with Bill Grauer), Keepnews found a new partner in Katz and launched the Milestone record label. Milestone remained independent for a number of years before finally moving from New York to Berkeley, CA and joining Fantasy Records in 1972. In its heyday, Milestone successfully attracted a number of well-established jazz artists, such as Sonny Rollins, Joe Henderson, McCoy Tyner, Nat Adderly and more.
