Description
Period Records was founded in 1949 by Hungarian-born William Avar and operated under the umbrella of Period Music Company. The label boasted an extensive catalog that spanned various genres, including classical, operetta, jazz, and popular music. Under the supervision of Leonard Feather, the label recorded numerous jazz musicians in the late 1950s. Period was acquired by Everest Records in 1965. Notable jazz artists: Charles Mingus, Sonny Rollins, Charlie Shavers, Thad Jones, and more.
