Pablo Records was formed in 1973 by Norman Grantz. Originally meant to record the artists Grantz managed (Ella Fitzgerald, Oscar Peterson, and Joe Pass), it later issued re-releases of jazz heavyweights like Count Basie, John Coltrane, Dizzy Gillespie, Sarah Vaughn, and Art Tatum.
