Started by Bob Weinstock in 1949, prestige released mainstream jazz recordings, but also bop and cool jazz. Rudy Van Gelder was the recording engineer for Prestige for over a decade, beginning in the 1950s. The label was sold to Fantasy Records in 1971, which was later incorporated into Concord Records. Notable Artists on Prestige: Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Thelonious Monk, Dizzy Gillespie, Sonny Rollins, Eric Dolphy, and many more.
