Description

Stax Records was founded in 1957 (as Satellite Records) by Jim Stewart, and later co-owned by his sister, Estelle Axton. The label was renamed to Stax Records in 1961, from the first two letters or the siblings respective last names. Today, the Stax catalog is owned by Concord Records. Notable artists: Otis Redding, Albert King, John Lee Hooker, Booker T, Carla Thomas and many more.
