Matchbox Records is a UK record label with interesting origins. In 1968, Saydisc Records created this well-known and respected label with a specific objective: to release material by contemporary British country blues artists as well as LPs featuring classic pre-war US country blues. The name of the label is Likely inspired by Blind Lemon Jefferson’s “Match Box Blues.” In recent years, the label created the Matchbox Bluesmaster Series, a series focusing on re-issuing blues recordings from the 1920s to the 1970s.
